Virginia Siverly, 93, of Clearfield, died Jan. 29, 2022, at he Clearview Home in Mount Ayr, Iowa.
Virginia, the daughter of Rue and Gladys (Elliott) Keenan, was born two miles west of Maloy, Iowa. Virginia attended grade school in Maloy. She went to high school in Mount Ayr where she obtained her normal training certificate to teach. She taught in several country schools in Ringgold County. On March 7, 1947, she married Fred Siverly. They lived and farmed in the Clearfield area for 72 years. To this union three children were born: Nancy Jean, Monica Sue and Kenneth Lee. A niece, Martha Lou Bennett, joined the family in 1962.
In the early 1960s, Virginia began substitute teaching in Clearfield School. While subbing, she began working towards her college degree. Virginia attended Creston Community College and Northwest Missouri State University. After years of night classes and summer sessions, she earned her B.S. in elementary education at the same time her daughter Nancy graduated from NWMSU. After twenty years, Virginia retired from teaching.
Virginia enjoyed being part of the Clearfield community. She was a member of the Clearfield Methodist Church, American Legion Auxiliary and served on the Clearfield Library Board. She later enjoyed being the librarian at the Clearfield Public Library for many years.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Fred, her son Kenneth, her parents Rue and Gladys Keenan, siblings and their spouses; Lee (Sheryl) Keenan, Dorothy (Beryl) Hall, Jean (Karl) Wurster, and Robert (Betty) Keenan, brothers and sisters-in-law; L.L. (Alice) Siverly, Winifred (Orville) Frus, Belle Bennett, Ethel (Paul) Graham, Joan (Arlo) Beggs and son-in-law Ron Mobley.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children: Nancy (Ron) Brown of Diagonal, Sue Mobley of Benton, niece Martha (Lewis) Larson of Clearfield, daughter-in-law Karen Siverly of Kearney, MO; grandchildren; Greg (Amy) Mobley of Maloy, Brian Mobley and Marci Werner (Clint) of Benton, Amanda (Kurt) Stoaks of Lenox, Brenton Siverly of Columbia, MO, Katie Siverly of Liberty, MO, Will (Bonnie) Larson of Diagonal, Robby (Aimie) Larson, Shaun (Dana) Larson all of Clearfield, great grandchildren; Madison (Josh) Sickels of Bedford, Emma and Gracie Mobley of Maloy, Ashton Johnson (Trent Joy) of Stella, NE, Alyssa Johnson and Ashtyn Werner of Benton, Todd (Cooper) Stoaks and Tyra Stoaks of Lenox, Jacy Stoaks of Altoona, Rhett, Matt, Abby Larson of Diagonal, Cody, Tucker, Tate Larson of Clearfield, Brock Eagan, Nicholas Larson of Clearfield, great, great grandchild; Kayce Rae Stoaks of Lenox, brother and sister in law Karl (Donna) Keenan of Slidell, Louisiana, and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Open viewing will be 1 to 6 p.m. Satruday, Feb. 5, 2022, at the Clearfield Methodist Church, with the family present from 4 to 6 p.m. Services will be 2:00 Sunday at the church. Burial is in the Clearfield Cemetery. Memorials to Clearfield Cemetery Paving Project and Clearfield United Methodist Church. Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr is in charge of the arrangements.
