Billy Lee “Bill” Johnson passed quietly Oct. 15, 2021. Bill was born Dec. 28, 1936. He grew up on his parents farm with his younger brother Bob.
In school he played football, baseball, was in band and earned National Honor Society membership.
Upon graduating he earned an appointment to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. Bill served in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1960 in the Air Defense Artillery.
Upon leaving the military, Bill attended the University of Northern Iowa, where he met the love of his life, Mary Jo. They were married in 1962 and had two children, Camille and Michael.
Bill started a career in industrial ceramics that led him and his family to Colorado, North Carolina, and finally Norman, Oklahoma, in 1977. He loved his job, where he met many great people and worked on challenging and unique projects.
He retired in 1995 and always kept busy. He had a lifelong love of shooting that continued into his retirement, becoming an accomplished reloader. He also had a lifelong love of music and was an accomplished guitar player from an early age. He loved woodworking with antique hand tools and always had a project in the works. He loved his family and his dachshunds. Those who knew him remember him as a kind, honest man.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Clara; brother, Robert; and his beloved Mary.
He is survived by his daughter, Camille; son, Michael; grandsons, Ryan and Daniel; sisters-in-law, Judy and Sherry; brother-in-law, Martin; and many extended family members. He will be always loved and greatly missed.
