Lanny Paul Benoit was born Sept. 24, 1940, in Harlan. His parents were Harold and Alice (Kinsey) Benoit. Lanny grew up in Harlan. After graduation, Lanny enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he was stationed in San Diego, California. On Jan. 10, 1958, Lanny was honorably discharged.

After his discharge, Lanny re-established back to Harlan, where he had various jobs. One of his long-time jobs was at Western Iowa Packing plant where he was a superintendent. In the fall of 1961, on Thanksgiving weekend, Lanny and Lois began dating. They were united in marriage July 7, 1962. The wedding was in Wilson, Kansas at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church. After the couple were united in marriage, they resided in Harlan. Lanny continued working at the packing plant.

Lanny was a family man. He loved spending time with his beautiful wife and two daughters; Shawn and Tracy. Lanny raised the girls to be strong, light hearted and hardworking. Lanny was very proud of his girls and most of all so very proud of his seven grandchildren: Jordan, Logan, Zach, Kinsey, Kassey, Alec, and Dylan.
