Margarite Genevieve (Jarvis) Minnick, 97, of Creston passed away peacefully Saturday, Oct. 23, 2021, at Crest Haven Care Center in Creston. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 27, 2021 at Pearson Family Funeral Service and Cremation Center of Creston and will be livestreamed. Rev. Mary O’Riley will officiate.
Margarite will be laid to rest in Graceland Cemetery, Creston. Family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, prior to the service. Margarite was born in Union County on April 27, 1924. She lived most of her younger life in Union County on a farm near Kent with her parents, Glen and Darlene Mickey and her sister Marilyn. Margarite attended country school in Platte Township through the 8th grade, then attended Kent High School for two years and graduated from Creston High School in 1941.
Margarite married George Minnick in Grant City, Missouri, Sept. 24, 1943. Two children were born to bless this union: Douglas W. and Lana Jean. Margarite was a farm wife and homemaker. George and Margarite moved to a farm near Tingley and Mt. Ayr in 1967 where they resided until 1998, when Margarite moved back to Creston.
She enjoyed her family and friends, loved to play cards, dance, crochet and babysit her grandchildren.
Preceding Margarite in death was her husband in 1997, her sister Marilyn Wehner.
Survivors include her son, Doug Minnick of Creston; her daughter, Lana (Mike) Hufnagel of Manhattan, Kansas; grandchildren: Matt Minnick of Adair, Megan (Josh) Stevens of West Des Moines, Shannon Hufnagel of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Shad (Lindsay) Hufnagel of Manhattan, Kansas; great-grandchildren: Trevor Minnick of Adair, Adri and Alle Hufnagel of Manhattan, Kansas; brother-in-law, Ralph Wehner of Elgin, Illinois.
