Janice K. (Foley) Cannon passed away Sept. 8, 2021. A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 12, 2021, at Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr, with burial to follow in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Janice was born March 15, 1945, at Mary Greeley Hospital in Ames. She was the eighth child of Michael James and Mary Alice (Ford) Foley. Jan was raised in Story County and attended Nevada School until 5th grade, and then transferred to the school in Colo, Iowa, where she graduated in 1963.
In 1964, she moved to Des Moines where she started working at American Republic Insurance Company until 1970.
In 1965 she met her husband Rodger Cannon on her one and only blind date. This really wasn’t her idea, and she was ready to not go if she didn’t like what she saw. She was upstairs and was going to peek out the window as he got out of the car, but somehow missed seeing him and had to bravely go down that staircase and “face the music.” It turned out that they got married Jan. 21, 1967. To this union two children were born: Monica Lyn on October 9, 1969, and Kevin Dale on March 25, 1971. Through the years she worked many part time jobs always putting family first.
In 1983, the family moved to Ringgold County and eventually, at age 40, she started as an agent with Bankers Life and Casualty Insurance. She retired from there at age 65 after building a very nice business and making many friends.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Mike and Alice Foley; husband Rodger Cannon; in-laws Benny and Eloween Cannon; brother-in-law Rollie Cannon; brothers Chuck Foley, Ed Foley and John Foley; brothers-in-law LeRoy Bigelow, Argyll Amenson and Stan Olsson; nephews Tim Foley and Jim Olsson; nieces Kelly Foley and Anna Olson.
Survivors include sisters: Mary Anne Bigelow, Louise Amenson, Pat Olsson, Margaret (Steve) Westvold, Barbara (Bradley) Fregger and Teresa (Lauren) Olson; brothers: Leonard (Patty) Foley and Tommy Joe (Ginger) Foley; sister-in-law Rita Foley; daughter Monica Lyn Clymer and Eric of Mount Ayr; two grandsons Cade Cannon Clymer and Cole Cannon Clymer; son Kevin Dale Cannon of Wood River, Illinois; step-grandkids: Chelsey Clymer, Alicia (Nick) Tussey, Ashley Clymer, Leah Clymer, Jordan Clymer; and many nieces and nephews.
