Jean Sothman

Jean Sothman, 88, of Clarinda, formerly of the Massena area, entered her eternal home on Aug. 14, 2021. Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 19, 2021, at Powers Funeral Home in Creston. Pastor Jeff Eason will officiate. Burial will be 4 p.m. in the Atlantic Cemetery.

Jean Louella (Roberts) Sothman was born Dec. 24, 1932, in Cumberland, to Ida Louella (Read) and William C. Roberts. Jean graduated from Cumberland High School and graduated with an Associate of Arts business degree from Southwestern Community College.

On Aug. 19, 1951, she was united in marriage to Clair Franklin Sothman in Cumberland. It would have been their 70th wedding anniversary this year. They settled west of Grant before moving south of Massena in 1955. Jean worked in Turner’s Department Store in Corning for 30 years. She was an active member of the Massena Baptist Church and the First Baptist Church of Cumberland. She was a founding member of the Dewey Neighborhood Club.

Jean is survived by three daughters: Deborah (James) Brass of Hudson, Barbara (Dale) Kompik Sr. of Pentwater, MI and Carol Sothman of Villisca; two sons, Daniel (Diane) Sothman of San Angelo, TX and Kevin (Kathy) Sothman of Cumberland; 14 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.

Jean was preceded in death by her husband, parents, a brother and wife Warren (Allene) Roberts, grandsons Levi Sothman and Dale Kompik Jr. and great granddaughter Elaine Sothman.
