Kenneth Scherer, 92, of Shannon City, died Monday, Aug. 2, 2021, at his home in Shannon City. Celebration of Life memorial services will be 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 6, 2021, at Powers Funeral Home in Creston. A private family burial will take place in Oakland Cemetery in Shannon City. Pastor Al Rusk will officiate.

Open memorial visitation with family receiving friends will be 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, August 6, 2021, at Powers Funeral Home in Creston. Memorials are to Shannon City Community Church. Online condolences may be made at www.powersfh.com.

Kenneth Carl Scherer was born Dec. 11, 1928, in Creston, the son of John Deyo and Erma L. (Collett) Scherer. He grew up on a Century Farm near Arispe, with one brother Dean. He received his schooling in Arispe. He was united in marriage to Jeraldine Woosley Jan. 25, 1947, in Osceola and four children were born from this blessed union.

Kenny worked as a mechanic in Afton until he graduated from Southwestern Community College, then after taught in Shannon City for the next 14 years.

In 1956, Kenny and Jerry purchased their home west of Shannon City, where they raised their family and began their life of farming. Kenny faithfully attended United Methodist Church until it closed, then helped keep the doors open as the Shannon City Community Church. Being active in the church with time and support has been a very important part of his life. He was always quick to tell a joke, sharing with people and spreading laughter and humor wherever he went.

Those left to cherish his memory include his children; daughter Dena (Tom) Jackson of Creston; sons Fred (Pam) Scherer of Creston and Gene Scherer of Shannon City, daughter Leslie (Arthur) Pritchard of Osceola; seven grandchildren: Troy (Kim) Jackson, Jennifer (Danny) Bakos, Tiffany Jackson and Jesse (Valerie) White, Stephanie (Brandon) Scherer, Mathew (Jennifer) Scherer and Shelby (Rich) Weis; 18 great-grandchildren: Branden Zimmerline, Connor and Dillon Jackson, Daniel and Tatum Bakos, Whisper and Chase Leeps- Jackson, Bevin, Michael, Jordan, Haydon and Landon Scherer, McKenna Thatcher, Riley Haines and Paisely Eagan and Christian and Kailyn White.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Erma Scherer, his beloved wife Jeraldine Scherer, April 18, 2014, and his brother Dean.
