Dale Dillenburg, 88, of Creston died Thursday, July 29, 2021, surrounded by his family at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Open visitation will be 2 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2021, with family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home in Creston.
Celebration of Life services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2021, at Powers Funeral Home in Creston. Pastor Phil Price will officiate the service.
Burial will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 5, 2021, in the Iowa Veteran Cemetery in rural Van Meter. Military honors will be conducted by Theodore J. Martens VFW Post No. 1797 of Creston. Memorials are to be determined. Online condolences may be made at www.powersfh.com.
Dale Everett Dillenburg, son of Theodore Lester Dillenburg and Thelma O. (Frazee) Dillenburg, was born Dec. 5, 1932, in rural Ringgold County. He graduated from Richland High School in Adair County in 1951. Following graduation, Dale worked on the farm with his father and then enlisted with the U.S. Army Feb. 3, 1954. He served his country being stationed in Okinawa during the Korean War. Dale was honorably discharged on Jan. 14, 1956, when he returned home and did road work while Carolyn finished college.
Dale was united in marriage to Carolyn Eva Lauer May 25, 1954, at Zion Church in rural Adair County. Dale later returned to his studies and attended two years at Southwestern Community College and then obtained his Bachelor of Science degree from Drake College, graduating in 1960.
He then began teaching social studies at Macksburg Community Schools, who later merged with Orient. While teaching, Dale also coached junior high boys and girls sports, women’s basketball, baseball as well as assisted with football. Dale taught until 1975. Dale then took a position at Innovative Industries as the production manager and worked there until his retirement. All the while, his passion for farming continued as he farmed into his 80s. Dale also enjoyed going to watch his grandsons in their many sport activities.
Dale was a member of United Congregational Church of Christ in Creston and a former member of Creston VFW and Elks.
Dale is survived by his wife, Carolyn of 67 years; daughters, Candi (Tom) Brotherton of Emmetsburg and Shari Eivins of Cedar Rapids; son Jeff Sr. (Brenda) Dillenburg of Creston; grandchildren: Nate Brotherton, Ryan Eivins, Jared Eivins and Jeffrey Dillenburg Jr.; step-grandchildren: Gayle Ramaeker and family, Crystal Harvey and family and Ben Lundy; brothers-in-law: Duane (Wanda) Lauer and family, Dean (Loretta) Lauer and family and Dennis ‘Chip’ (Betty) Lauer and family; along with other extended relatives and friends.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents, son-in-law Gail Eivins, brother Junior (Lucy) Dillenburg and brother-in-law Deloyte (Esther) Lauer.
