Charlie Taylor, 85, of Creston, died Saturday, July 24, 2021, at his home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Thursday, July 29, 2021, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Creston. Father Adam Westphal will officiate.
Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery, south of Creston. Open visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. Wednesday with family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, with a rosary at 6:45 p.m. Wednesday, with sharing time to follow at the Powers Funeral Home, 601 New York Ave. in Creston.

Charles Patrick Taylor, son of Delno Charles Taylor and Francis Marie (Stevens) Taylor, was born Aug. 25, 1935, in Jefferson. He graduated from Cooper Consolidated School in 1953. Charlie soon started working at the Garrity Garage in Cooper.
On Jan. 31, 1959, Charlie married Patricia E. Mitchell in Stuart. To this union, five children were born: Chuck, Craig, Curtis, Bud and Crystal. Charlie was employed by International Harvester in Creston for several years. He later started his own business, T & L Service, repairing International Harvester and Farmall tractors, until retiring in 2015.
Charlie was an outstanding baseball player. He played for several teams including the Nevinville baseball team and the Creston Saints (1960 to 1970s). He was invited to St. Louis Cardinal baseball tryouts as a first baseman in 1954.
A favorite road trip was to the Rose Bowl game in 1959, with his Cooper High School classmates in his new Ford Crown Victoria car to watch the Hawkeyes win! Charlie’s hobbies were riding his Harley and Honda motorcycles along with wife Pat. They enjoyed riding with their dear friends and met many new friends during their adventures. They traveled to all the states and even traveled to Canada and Mexico. They also attended the Sturgis Rallies for over 30 years. Charlie’s memberships include the Holy Spirit Catholic Church, the Creston Eagles Lodge and Creston Elks Club, former member of the (Knights of Columbus) and HOG — Harley Owner’s Group.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Patricia Taylor; five children, Charles P. Taylor Jr. (significant other Melissa Wallace) of Ankeny, Craig (wife Linda) Taylor of Creston, Curtis (wife Debbie) Taylor of Urbandale, Bud (wife Sherry) Taylor of Pleasanton and Crystal Taylor (significant other Dave Brown) of Creston; seven grandchildren: Cayla (Blake), Cyle (Jenna), Aubrey, Garret (significant other Taylor), Evan and Cory Taylor; three great-grandchildren: Althea and Cordelia Miller and Calvin Taylor; Charlie’s siblings; Maxine (Bob) Wilkinson of Emerson, Marcellous (Evelyn) Taylor, Jim Taylor, Wayne (Jean) Taylor, all of Jefferson, Gene Taylor (significant other Vicki) of Perry; Sue Taylor of Jefferson; Louise (Mike) Borsheim of Omaha, Nebraska; Pat’s brother, Sam (Paula) Mitchell of Ogden.
Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Madonna Schmidt and Audrey Spieker, son-in-law Jerry Miller; Pat’s parents: John and Bessie Mitchell, Pat’s brothers and sisters: Ray Snell, John Kent, Sue Raibikis, Kay Grubbs and Joan Nolan.
