Shirley Craig, 72, of Shannon City died Saturday, July 10, 2021, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. A Celebration of Life service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 16, 2021, at Powers Funeral Home in Afton. Rev. Jim Morris will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery in Afton. Open visitation will be 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday, July 15, 2021, with the family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Shirley Kay Craig, daughter of Carl Ernest McMichael and Merle Maxine (Evison) McMichael, was born Aug. 19, 1948, in Winterset. She graduated from Interstate 35 High School in 1966.
On June 21, 1968, Shirley was united in marriage to William Dean Craig in Winterset. They settled in San Diego, California, while Bill was in the military.
They returned to Lorimor, where she worked as an active mother and homemaker. She later began working at Bunn-O-Matic, working in many different departments, and finishing her 28 years there in the wiring department. In 2002, Shirley and Bill purchased their farm in Shannon City. Shirley retired in 2010.
Shirley was an active member of the Fred N. Davis Post No. 96 American Legion Post Ladies Auxiliary. Shirley also enjoyed gardening with her flowers, particularly her African violets.
Survivors include her husband William Craig of Shannon City; her three children: Susan Craig of Afton, Michael Craig of Lorimor and Brenda (husband Eric) Trogdon of St. Charles; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a brother, Richard (wife Patty) McMichael of Truro and sister-in-law, Edna Epperson of Concho, Arizona.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters Joyce Patton and Donna Hudson, father and mother-in-law Harold and Nina Craig, three brothers-in-law: Walter “Bud” Craig, Arthur Craig and Edgar Craig and a sister-in-law in infancy Ona Craig.
