Lloyd Glendenning, 90, of Mount Ayr, passed away Sunday, July 11, 2021. A visitation will be held at Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 14, 2021, with services 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 15, 2021, at Mount Ayr United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established in his name.
Lloyd, son of Harden and Lola (McPherson) Glendenning, was born March 23, 1931, on the family farm. He graduated from Mount Ayr High School in 1949. He married LaVerne Smith Dec. 22, 1951, in Fontanelle.
Lloyd was in the automotive business for nearly 70 years: working for Harvey Bros. and then owning and operating Glendenning Motors in Mount Ayr since 1988. He loved hosting customer appreciation parties at the American Legion and golf tournaments at the country club.
Lloyd loved racing and was an active race car driver for 25 years, racing on tracks throughout Missouri and Iowa.
Those left to cherish his memory include his sons Paul (Jodi Manville) Glendenning of Mount Ayr and Todd (Angie) Glendenning of Redding, Lywanda Case of Mount Ayr, whom he thought of as a daughter; grandchildren: Kelsey Larsen, Jacob (Makayla Maslanka) Glendenning, Hannah (Sean Swanson) Glendenning, Blair Glendenning, Tya (Chris Webb) Wilson; great-grandchildren: Makade Wilson, Liam Wilson, Skylar Webb, Cameron Webb; sister-in-law Janet Glendenning; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents; wife LaVerne; brother Max and sister-in-law Donna Glendenning.
