Alice Mae Johnson, daughter of Archie McCafferty and Lee O’Dell McCafferty, was born May 6, 1929, in Cromwell, and passed from this life Thursday, May 20, 2021, at Southern Hills Specialty Care at 92 years of age.

Alice received her early education in Cromwell and graduated from Creston High School in 1947.

She was united in marriage to Charles Duane Johnson Dec. 26, 1948, in Creston and four children; Greg, Gloria, Dana and Kevin, blessed this union.

Alice was a wife, mother and business partner working along side her husband, Duane, at the stockyards. She was very devoted to her church, serving as a Sunday school teacher and Bible school teacher for many years. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society in Osceola and volunteered as a den mother in years past.

Alice enjoyed sewing, crocheting, quilting and had even made a quilt for each of her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed her friends and gathering with them for coffee in Murray.

Those relatives who preceded Alice in death were her parents, husband Charles Duane Johnson, father-in-law Gerald Neal Johnson, mother-in-law Velma Naomi Johnson, daughter Dana Stonehocker, sister Mary Looney, brother-in-law Cecil Looney, brother Gayle McCafferty, sister-in-law Marion McCafferty, sister Ethel Miller, brother-in-law Orville Miller, brothers-in-law Eugene Johnson and Donald Johnson, sisters-in-law Betty Johnson and Mary Darlene Wright, brother-in-law Gene Wright.

Alice leaves to cherish her memory; son Greg (Nancy) Johnson of Ankeny; daughter Gloria (Thomas) Maffett of Lorimor; son Kevin (Claudia) Johnson of Cazenovia, New York; son-in-law David Stonehocker of Thayer; granddaughter Jill Maffett of Des Moines; granddaughter Tracy (Bryce) Grail of Ames; granddaughter Lindsay (Jake) Dobberke of Kansas City, Missouri; grandson Chad (Becky) Johnson of Portland, Oregon; granddaughter Alyssa Johnson of New York, NY; grandson Kyle Johnson of New York, NY; great-grandchildren: Ella, Harper, Sylvie, Madison, James, Caitlyn; sister-in-law Veda Johnson of Indianola and her special friend, Kelsey Wells; as well as other relatives and many friends.

Services will be held at Kale Funeral Home, 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 26, 2021, with Pastor Marty Burgus officiating.

The family will greet friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 26, 2021, at Kale Funeral Home.

Social Distancing and face coverings are suggested. If you are unable to attend the service in person, a live stream will be available at www.kalefuneralhome.com on Alice’s tribute wall beginning at 11:00 am, Wednesday.

Interment will be in the Murray Cemetery
