Marvin Lemke

Guthrie Center

Marvin Alfred Lemke was born Oct. 22, 1939, and died at his home, May 13, 2021, surrounded by his loving family.

Marvin met the love of his life, Lois Sheeder, in the small town of Casey. They were married June 4, 1960, and settled in Guthrie Center where they raised three children: Heidi (Mark) Blomquist, Melody (Scott) Jorgensen and Russell (Bonnie) Lemke. With nearly 61 years of marriage, Marvin and Lois’s legacy will be forever cherished by their family.

Marvin graduated from Guthrie Center High School in 1958. After graduation, he began working at Hansen Lumber as a truck driver. Marvin started his long career at the Guthrie County REC in 1963 as a lineman, where he later held foreman and superintendent positions. Marvin climbed hundreds of poles throughout his career to keep the lights on for many Guthrie County residents.

After 39 years, Marvin retired and pursued his hobbies of wood working, hunting, fishing, bird watching, helping Lois quilt and watching the “Price is Right.” Marvin was a man of many talents and hobbies. No job was too challenging, including building his house and family cabin in the timber. He enjoyed building furniture from the trees he cut himself, pushing them through his own sawmill.

His favorite pastimes were being with family, playing cards, taking vacations with Lois — riding trains throughout the United States. “Grandpa Marvin” was very proud of his grandchildren: Spenser (Brandy) Jorgensen, Callen (Kelly) Blomquist, Heath (Ruth) Blomquist, Trevor (Jami) Jorgensen, Alexandria (Caleb) Thompson, Logan Lemke, and Sean Lemke (and friend, Hannah Borst). He enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s wrestling meets, baseball and football games, golf meets, gymnastic meets, dance recitals and more.

Marvin was blessed with 11 great-grandchildren and one spoiled grand-pup, Jazzy, that he also loved very much. Marvin was the oldest of his siblings: Elwyn (Phyllis) Lemke, Werdna (Roy) Rumelhart, Wanitta (Mike) Ramsey, Dennis (Deb) Lemke, Dwayne (Cheryl) Lemke and Phyllis Jean Lemke Marvin; was preceded in death by his parents, Veryl and Doris Lemke; brother Elwyn Lemke; father- and mother-in-law Leon and Velma Sheeder.

Memorials may be left in his honor at the Twigg Funeral Home website www.twiggfuneralhome.com.
