Janice Pullen

Council Bluffs

Janice Pullen, 82, passed away peacefully at Risen Son Christian Village in Council Bluffs, Friday, April 23, 2021. She was born May 12, 1938, to Wilbur and Edith Mattes in Imogene.

She graduated from high school in Randolph in 1956. After high school, she worked on her family farm and worked at Earl May Garden Center.

In 1958, she married Bill Stitzel and they owned and operated Stitzel Floral Shop in Shenandoah until 1965. Her and Bill divorced later that year.

In 1966, she married Don Pullen and they resided in Clarinda. She was a bartender at The Celler, Indaclar, The Shiddley Dee and she was also a homemaker. Janice enjoyed gardening, sewing, remodeling and refinishing furniture and motorcycles. Her pride and joy was her family and grandchildren. She was part of five living generations twice in her life, once when she became great-grandma and her mother was great-great-grandma, and then when she became great-great-grandma.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by son, Donnie Jr.; sister, Phyllis; granddaughter, Amy (Kevin) Sharp and their children Sterling and Adrianna in March of 2018; grandson, Josh in 2020;

Janice is survived by children: Beth (Roger) Fry of Creston, Mike (Tim) Pullen of Chandler, Arizona, Kelly (Tina) Stitzel of Grove Town, Georgia, Kerry Stitzel in Shenandoah and Christy (Dave) Daugherty of Council Bluffs; siblings: Bob (Bonnie) Mattes, Jim Mattes, Brenda (Dave) Wendt and Randy Mattes; grandchildren: Renee (Glen) Hoyt, Erica (Tyler) Dell’Lsoa, Alisha (Ivan) Rojas, Beth (Russ) Blacksmith, Austin (Kayla) Terry and Hannah Stitzel; great-grandchildren: Kacie, Kayleann, Jake, Reyd, Ridley, Emilio “Lio”, Elena, Everly and a baby Terry on the way; great-great-grandchildren: Bentley, Coy and Crate; a host of family and friends.

A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. May 4, 2021, at Hoy Kilnoski Funeral Home. The family will direct memorials.
