Dan Martin, 69, of Creston died Wednesday, April 14, 2021, at his home south of Creston. A Celebration of Life memorial service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 20, 2021, at Graceland Cemetery Chapel, south of Creston. Pastor Mary O’Riley will officiate.

Military honors will be conducted by Theodore J. Martens Creston VFW Post No.1797. No visitation will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorials are to the American Cancer Society. Online condolences can be made at www.powersfh.com

Daniel Joseph Martin was born May 25, 1951, in Creston, to Lawrence “Shorty” Martin and Hazel Irene (Reasland) Martin. He grew up in Creston, graduating from Creston High School with the class of 1969. Dan worked in construction.

In 1979, Dan was drafted into the U.S. Army and was stationed in Italy as a surveyor. He served during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged in October 1972.

After his return, he worked on the family farm, partnering with his dad. Their farming operation included growing corn, beans, raising hogs and cattle. He retired in 2017. Dan had a knack for carpentry, building all the buildings on his farm.

Survivors include his father, Shorty Martin of Creston; his brother Richard “Rick” Martin of Creston; aunts Bonnie Hodge and Marjorie Reasland, both of Creston; his uncle Glenn Reasland, niece Niki (Scott) Abiltrup of Creston; four great-nieces and nephews: Kaci, Ryli, Halli and Brant; cousins: Scott Reasland, Laura Palmer, Jeff and Brad Hodge, Rhonda Thompson, Rita Schofield, Mary Jo Stegall, Jim and Chuck Ford; numerous other extended family members.

Dan was preceded in death by his mother Hazel Martin in 2016, his nephews Matthew Martin and Michael Martin.
