James “Jim” Jones, 77, of Mount Ayr, formerly of Creston entered eternal rest, Friday, April 9, 2021, at Clearview Home in Mount Ayr. Funeral services will be 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 13, 2021, at Pearson Family Funeral Service and Cremation Center, 809 W. Montgomery St., Creston. Rev. Cindy Ripperger will officiate.

Open visitation with family receiving friends will be 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday. Interment will be 3 p.m., Wednesday, April 14, 2021, in Graceland Cemetery in Creston.

James Herbert Jones was born Dec. 28, 1943, in Creston, the son of Herbert and Vera (Pridgen) Jones. Jim attended country school in Union County through 8th grade, graduating from Creston High School with the Class of 1962. Jim was united in marriage to Jeanne Riley Dec. 28, 1963. Two children were born to this union: Rod and Pam.

James was employed by Burlington Northern Railroad and worked many years as a Conductor. He was active for many years in the Railroad Union and the Creston Masonic Lodge. Jim was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Creston and a Car Club, even building his own Kit Car.

Jim is survived by his children: Rod Jones and Pam (Brian) Sobotka, both of Creston; brother, William Jones of Cherokee, Alabama; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Preceding James in death were his parents and grandparents.
