Earl Thomas Johnson was born July 2, 1930, in Loris, South Carolina. He was raised on the farm until the age of 16, when he Enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He served three years in Japan before returning home to South Carolina.
He then went to Washington, D.C. to work as a radio disc jockey. While there, he met country music star Roy Clark and they became life-long friends. From this friendship, Tommy’s passion for music inspired him to teach himself how to play the steel guitar. Tommy spent over 40 years playing professionally.
In 1967, he met Esther Allen in Davenport while working as a radio D.J. Three years later, on Oct. 14, 1970, Tommy and Esther were married in Conway, South Carolina. Four daughters were born to bless this union.
On March 10, 1974, Tommy and Esther dedicated their lives to Jehovah as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. He spent the next 47 years sharing his love for Bible truths with others, remaining faithful to the end.
