Joe Calvin, 46, of Creston died Tuesday, March 16, 2021, in Indian Shores, Florida. A Celebration of Life service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, March 27, 2021, at Powers Funeral Home, 601 New York Ave. in Creston. Pastor Jodi Rushing will officiate. The service will also be livestreamed on Powers Funeral Home Facebook page. Masks will be in limited use, so those attending take whatever precautions that are fitting.
Burial will be in North Fairview Cemetery in Lenox. Open visitation will be 2 to 7 p.m. Friday, March 26, 2021, at Powers Funeral Home in Creston, with family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m.

Joseph Alan Calvin was born August 21, 1974, in Homestead, Florida, on the U.S. Air Force base to David Lee Calvin and Linda Rae (Westlake) Calvin.
He grew up in Creston and graduated from Creston High School in 1993. While in high school he was an outstanding athlete. He was a first team all-state pitcher on the Creston baseball team that won its fifth straight conference championship his senior year. He was also a receiver on the Panther football team and a clutch shooter on the basketball team, playing for Vic Belger and Mike Gerleman. Following graduation, he studied at Southwestern Community College and played baseball.
On Sept. 9, 2000, Joe was united in marriage to Trisha Rena Carson at United Church of Christ in Creston. They settled and worked in Creston. Joe worked at Fareway grocery stores in Creston, Des Moines and Nevada. He also worked for the Farner-Bocken company.
After returning to Creston in 2003, Joe worked as an insurance agent for Farm Bureau. Joe and Trisha later divorced.
Joe enjoyed spending his free time coaching the padded football league, basketball and baseball teams; hunting coyote, deer and pheasants; golfing in the Pine Valley Golf League and planning trips. Joe was a member of the Panther Booster Club and formerly a member of the B.P.O. Creston Elks Lodge No. 605.
Survivors include his three children: Karly, Aleah and Dylan Calvin, all of Creston; his father David (Penny) Calvin of Frederickburg, Virginia; mother Linda Adams of Creston; his sister Stephanie (Brian) Wallace of Creston; half-sister Cassie Calvin of Springfield, Missouri; two step-sisters: Kerry (Craig) Poulos of Ellicott City, Maryland and Kathy (Bernard) Palin, Woodbridge, Virginia; two uncles: Jerry (Sherry) Calvin of Lenox and Michael (Pam) Calvin of Fredericksburg, Virginia; cousins: Heith (Alison) Kitzman and Lincoln Calvin, both of Lenox, Grant (Lacie) Calvin of Bondurant, Justus and Kathy Calvin; niece and nephew Breanna and Brodie Wallace; numerous other extended family and friends.
Joe was preceded in death by step-sister Kimberly Bell; grandparents, Betty Westlake, Margaret and Vyrle Baker and Jack Calvin.
