Wanda Frederick, 100, of Creston died Tuesday, March 9, 2021, at EveryStep Greater Regional Hospice House in Creston. Celebration of Life memorial services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, March 13, 2021, at Powers Funeral Home in Creston. Pastor Jim McIntosh and Pastor Delores Doench will officiate. The service will be livestreamed on Powers Funeral Home Facebook page. Open visitation with family receiving friends from noon to 1 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home in Creston.

Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery in Cromwell. In lieu of flowers, memorials are to the Creston Animal Rescue Efforts or the EveryStep Greater Regional Hospice House Foundation. Online condolences may be made at www.powersfh.com.

Wanda Lucille (West) Frederick, daughter of Vernon George West and Eva Minerva (Fowler) West, was born April 29, 1920, in Creston. She was educated in Creston schools.

On July 3, 1938, Wanda was united in marriage to Frank Martin Frederick in Creston. Together they raised three children: Ed, David and Lana. Wanda worked from home doing odd jobs for others, before working as a waitress in Mt. Ayr. They lived in rural Shannon City and then moved to Cromwell. Wanda then began her career in 1957 working at the Creston hospital as a nurse’s aide. She retired after 30 years in 1987. Wanda later moved to Creston.

Wanda was a member of Cromwell Congregational Church, Cromwell Women’s Auxiliary and also their quilting club.

Wanda is survived by her daughter, Lana (Bob) Thaden of Creston; grandchildren: Doug Frederick of Jonesboro, Arkansas, Susie (Rob) Hertzberg of Urbandale, Joe (Kristi) Frederick of Osceola and Eric Thaden of Des Moines; great-grandchildren: Elizabeth Hertzberg and Bailey, Jared and Leah Frederick; along with other extended relatives and friends.

Wanda was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sons Ed and David Frederick, brothers Carl and Homer West, sisters Thelma, Dorothy, Mabel and Opal.
