Roland (Ronnie) Routh, 94, of Creston died Saturday, Jan. 2, 2021, at Clearview Home in Mount Ayr. Celebration of Life services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Powers Funeral Home in Creston. Pastor Bill Armstrong will officiate the service. Services will be livestreamed on Powers Funeral Home Facebook page. Masks and social distancing are required. Burial will be in Clearfield Cemetery with military honors by Theodore J. Marten’s Creston VFW Post No. 1797.
Open visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday with family receiving friends from 1 p.m. until service time at 2 p.m. Thursday at Powers Funeral Home in Creston. Roland David Routh, son of Addis Routh and Gladys Marie (Bailey) Routh, was born June 12, 1926, in Clearfield. He was educated in the Clearfield Community Schools and graduated from there with the class of 1945. Ronnie enlisted with the U.S. Army in 1945 and served his country 23 months until his honorable discharge in 1946.
Ronnie was united in marriage to Bonnie Jean Thompson June 29, 1952, in Clearfield. Together they resided in Clearfield for a year then they moved to Creston where Ronnie co-owned and operated the City Service Station with his brother Richard for two years. Ronnie then drove trucks with Creston Transfer as a dispatch and back-up driver. He later purchased the business and ran it until the mid-1980s. Ronnie also farmed, raised chickens for 28 years and did custom harvesting until his partial retirement in 2015.
Ronnie was a member of the Elks Lodge in Creston, a charter member of the 100 point Ducks Unlimited Chapter, Platte River Sports Complex and the Clearfield Lions Club. He was former member of the VFW and the Eagles Club.
Ronnie is survived by his son Brett (Tawnya) Routh of Creston; three grandchildren: Stephanie (Ben) Reed of Des Moines, Jeffery “J.D.” (Mackenzie) Routh of Creston, and Jacob “Jade” Routh of Creston; great-grandson Oliver Reed; brother Bill (Anna) Routh of Coffee Creek, Montana; sister Gwen (Spencer) Sandeman of Creston and sister-in-law Marilyn Routh of Whiting and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife Bonnie in 2017, brothers Mick, J.B., Rich and Bernard Routh and a sister in infancy Betty Sue Routh.
