CAT arranges summer production

The important dates to mark on the calendar have been decided for Crest Area Theatre’s summer production, which will be revealed officially next month.

Monday, March 10′s CAT meeting was delayed from its original date of March 3 after various conflicts from the board.

Auditions for a summer comedy production will be held on May 17, 18 and 19 at SWCC’s Performing Arts Center. The PAC has been the home of CAT productions since the building’s construction. The organization has already reserved the center on various days for practice through the summer until performances on July 11, 12 and 13.

The summer comedy production will have a wide range of characters, including the opportunity for actors of an older background. A fast-paced show with rapid dialogue and wacky characterization will provide plenty of laughs. CAT will officially reveal the show next month after securing the rights to performance.

SWCC has also already blocked Dec. 5, 6 and 7 for CAT’s holiday show. Arrangements for that show, with a suggestion for a “madrigal” theme, will follow the summer production.

A mystery dinner collaboration with Creston Arts will continue development. The board noted the production will most likely take place sometime in the fall. A script has already been created for the show by Creston local Kelly Maxwell.

Applications for the 2025 CAT Fine Arts Scholarship are available from area high school counselors and online at the CAT website, crestareatheatre.wordpress.com. High school seniors in fine arts and intend to pursue their field, including music, drama, visual arts, creative writing and more, can apply for the scholarship.

Seniors from Creston, East Union, Mount Ayr, Nodaway Valley, Southwest Valley, Murray, Orient-Macksburg and Lenox are encouraged to apply. All applications should be submitted by the end of the day on Wednesday, April 30.

Vice President Justin Kendrick noted a need to organize various production materials sitting in storage, including the recovery process of any costumes or props damaged by natural wear or the elements.
