Supervisors begin new year

Union County Board of Supervisors started 2025 Monday by naming Dennis Brown as chairman for the year. Rick Friday will be vice chairman for the year.

At the recommendation of sheriff Brian Bolton, Dan McNeill was appointed chief deputy. McNeill has 23 years of experience in Union County. The sheriff’s department has a vacancy in the department and Bolton has begun the process of finding a new deputy.

Katie Carlton was reappointed to the county conservation board for another five-year term. Her term expired Dec. 31. She is also Union County Recorder. Supervisors approved the condemnation board, a rarely used board that has members serving two-year terms.

Dan Walker resigned as a county medical examiner. County officials said it is not necessary to fill his position.

Afton Star Enterprise and Creston News Advertiser were named the county’s official newspapers for 2025.

The county will recognize the following holidays: Presidents’ Day, Feb. 17; Good Friday, April 18; Memorial Day, May 26; July 4, Friday; Labor Day, Sept. 1; Veterans Day, Nov. 11; Thanksgiving and day after, Nov. 27, 28; Christmas Day and day after, Dec. 25, 26; Jan. 1, 2026.
