AFTON - East Union’s final board of directors meeting of 2024 on Monday, Dec. 16, was a minor one.
East Union’s final day of the first semester will end a few days after the winter break on Jan. 10, marking the end of the first semester of the four-day school week and increased awareness toward chronically absent students, two major issues the school sought to tackle this year.
Three activity fund accounts were closed after “excessive inactivity” in the activities. Funding for E-Sports, Spanish Club and Science Club were closed with the funds totaling $2,476.86 moved to the general activity account.
The replacement of the pump and motor assembly of the high school’s HVAC system was approved. The school moved forward with the Baker Group’s recommendation. The group had rebuilt the pump multiple times, but after noticing increased wear on the pump, the group recommended full replacement as more cost-effective. The project will leave a net cost of $12,594.
A yearly submission of a request to the School Budget Review Committee for funding for the school’s 2025-26 At-Risk and Dropoput Prevention Program was approved. The school looks to receive $175,694 to fund the program.
Board members Carol Eckels and Amber Tate were absent, as well as Superintendent Tim Kuehl.
