Water works plans for more main upgrades

Creston Waterworks Board Tuesday approved scheduling a public hearing during its Jan. 14 meeting about plans and procedures to replace aging water infrastructure for a significant portion of town.

Creston Waterworks is looking to replace old waterlines throughout much of uptown Creston with streets acting as boundaries.

Like what was replaced this fall in the 100, 200 and 300 blocks of North Maple Street, General Manager Steve Guthrie said the water mains are antique. The project may be bid in March. Guthrie said the bid amounts may alter the project. In summer 2023, the project was estimated at $5.75 million.

Guthrie said it’s possible multiple contractors may be used for the work and be done in phases. He said it is possible the work will take three construction seasons to complete; from April 1 to Dec. 1. Guthrie expects traffic delays and detours during the work.

The board meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m at the water works office.
