Union County Assessor Mindy Schaefer submitted her resignation Tuesday to the Union County Conference board. Her resignation is effective Jan. 2, 2025.
She has been involved in county government for 24 years, 12 of them in Union County. The past five years were as assessor. She said she accepted another public position but declined to explain further details. Schaefer said assessor’s office clerk Jessica Hagen has begun the process to be certified as an Iowa county assessor. Once certified, applicants can be appointed to the position.
“I believe she is interested in the position,” Schaefer said. Hagen was not in attendance. Schaefer said it’s possible Hagen could be certified by late January.
The conference board approved her resignation. The board is made up of representatives of taxing entities within the county.
