Absentee voting begins Wednesday

Voters may cast an absentee ballot in person at the county auditor’s office beginning Wednesday. Voters must use the absentee ballot at the auditor’s office. Polls will be open Nov. 5.

For primary and general elections, absentee ballots will be available no earlier than 20 days at the county auditors’ offices. In-person absentee voting is not available on election day at the auditor’s office unless the polls open at noon. If the polls open at noon, voters may cast an absentee ballot at the county auditor’s office from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. on election day.

A registered voter may make written application to their county auditor for an absentee ballot. A written application for a mailed absentee ballot must be received by the voter’s county auditor no later than 5 p.m. 15 days before the election.

In order to receive an absentee ballot, a registered voter must provide the following necessary information: name, date of birth, Iowa residential address and Voter Verification Number (ID Number). That is either their Iowa driver’s license or non-operator ID number or four digit Voter PIN located on the voter’s Iowa voter ID card.

In other county news....

Union County Board of Supervisors met with Paul Greufe who has handled the county’s human resource since 2013. In recent weeks, the supervisors have met with other HR firm representatives. The county is reviewing HR providers. No action was taken.

Greufe of Davenport told the supervisors he has more than 30 years experience plus has a master’s degree in business administration. He teaches courses for Iowa State University, Clark College and Black Hawk College in Moline, Illinois. Greufe said he has never lost a lawsuit filed against him related to employment issues.

“I’m proud of that record,” he said.

His services are $1,600 a month and suggests a one-year contract.

Greufe was involved in Union County’s emergency management employee issue last year.
