Creston fire responds to rural fire

Creston and other area fire departments respond to a structure fire early Friday southwest of Creston. Residents of the house safely evacuated.

The Creston Fire Department got help from Afton, Lenox, Prescott and Corning departments fighting a structure fire called in at about 3:45 a.m. Friday at 1297 240th St., southwest of Creston.

According to a preliminary report, upon arrival, a combined working area and residential structure and greenhouse were engulfed in flames. The occupants safely exited the home before firefighters arrived. Cause of the fire was not stated.

All responding fire departments made multiple shuttles with tanker trucks to provide water to two portable water tanks and a pumper, keeping firefighters supplied with a constant source of water. Creston and other departments conducted a rural fire fighting live burn exercise last December in which they trained for this type of water transportation operation.
