Adams County sets Sept. 9 public hearing

CORNING — Adams County Board of Supervisors approved a public hearing at 10 a.m. Sept. 9 about revisions to the county’s wind turbine ordinance. The details of the ordinance have been discussed for weeks.

Highlights of the proposed changes included allowing up to 225 turbines, up from 175.

Supervisors propose 30 hours of shadow flicker a year. Shadow flicker is when the turbine tower and or blades cast a shadow on residences. Turbines have to be at least one-and-one-half times its total height from a property line.

The county also wants to incorporate lighting systems intended for non-commercial aircraft. The turbine detection lights on the turbines will only be activated when an aircraft is in a certain area of the turbine.
