Since 1904, no one has represented the nine-county Judicial District 5B as president of the Iowa State Bar Association – until now. Creston native Arnold “Skip” Kenyon was recently appointed president. With renovations to Pole Road completed, the next county project on the list is Osage Street. However, plans for the project are still being written. ”We’re probably just going to do a little bit (of Osage Street) at a time,” said Steve Akes, Union County engineer. “We may not get it all done this year.” The road, which hasn’t been rejuvenated in 20 years, will be narrowed and reshaped to prevent water pooling. The ditches will be cleaned up, which will also allow for more drainage.

Creston residents pushing a substantial amount of grass, leaves or other debris from their residences into streets or alleys will soon be fined a minimum of $200. Imagine having nearly $45,000 given to you to spend and not being able to spend it. That, in essence, is what the city of Creston is facing after it declined $44,900 in federal transportation funds for a sidewalk for the north side of the city. The city wants to construct sidewalks near the Area Arts and Wellness Center to provide for safer foot traffic. But, because the money is in federal funds, the sidewalk must meet federal guidelines, and those guidelines include an 8 foot wide sidewalk. Mayor Larry Wynn says the people on the north side of Townline won’t put up with an eight foot wide sidewalk in their front yards, and he doesn’t blame them.

The two went back and found the baby doe and brought it to the Huss home where it was given some milk. Then a call was made to Mark Roberg, a conservation officer for this area. Roberg told Huss to return the doe to the field where they found it and the mother would return. The next day the doe was gone.
