BNSF train derails in Red Oak

A BNSF train derailed in Red Oak, landing on a parked Railcrew Xpress vehicle Thursday morning. The driver was treated for minor injuries.

Montgomery County Emergency Mangement reported a train derailment Thursday morning.

At approximately 6:05 a.m., the Montgomery County Communications Center received a call from Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) Railroad, reporting a train derailment with a vehicle involved in the area of Bluegrass Road and East Nuckols Street in Red Oak.

Emergency crews arrived on scene and found a BNSF train with four grain cars derailed in the south ditch with one grain car on top of a parked Railcrew Xpress transportation vehicle. The driver of the transportation vehicle was able to self-extricate from the vehicle under his own power and was transported to Montgomery County Memorial Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

There was no threat or hazard to the public. East Nuckols Street and Bluegrass Road will be closed for an extended period of time for cleanup. The cause for derailment has yet to be shared.
