Crushing cancer as a community

Crush Cancer in Every Color will be held this Saturday, with all proceeds going to the Greater Regional Infusion and Oncology Center. Last year's color run will now be a glow run.

This Saturday, Creston’s annual Crush Cancer in Every Color fundraiser will be hosted for the third year at in a row by Greater Regional Health, with all proceeds benefiting the Greater Regional Infusion and Oncology Center. Previous iterations were hosted in conjunction with the American Cancer Society.

Located at McKinley Park, one major change this year in the order of events is the fun run/walk. While the day had previously begun with a color run, this year the event has moved to the evening, turning into a glow run.

The day now starts with a disc golf tournament at 10 a.m., with registration starting at 9 a.m. Also at 10 a.m. is the vendor fair, running until 2 p.m. Vendor basket raffles will also be available.

From 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. the Cancer Sucks Car Show will be hosted around the bear statue. No preregistration is needed. A $10 donation vehicle entry fee is taken upon arrival. During the show, a 50/50 raffle and live auction will take place.

Following the car show is Cruise for a Cure. At 3 p.m., a pilot car will lead the cruise out to Green Valley Park and back to McKinley, with an estimated time duration of 40 minutes. Maps of the cruise can be found on the event’s Facebook page, Creston’s Crush Cancer in Every Color.

A bags tournament and bocce ball tournament will begin at 4 p.m., with registration starting at 3:30 p.m.

At the same time, a number of family events will begin, including a dunk tank, painting memory rocks and more. A hair cutting ceremony will also be held at 4 p.m.

At 5 p.m., the Spotlight School of Dance will perform. Radiant Wellness Solutions takes the wheel at 5:30 p.m. with yoga, while Henry’s Martial Arts will host a demonstration and break-a-thon at 6 p.m. Bricks and boards will be available for purchase, in which names of cancer patients can be written to be crushed.

At 8 p.m. is the Survivor Recognition Ceremony, where local fighters and survivors will be honored. The Glow Run/Walk will begin at 8:30 p.m., with registration starting at 7:30 p.m.

The Luminary ceremony will be held at 9 p.m. to honor, celebrate and remember cancer patients.

Throughout the day, a number of food trucks will be available. Reno & Woody’s and Corndog Caravan will serve regular food, with A&K Lemonade providing drinks and Kate’s Kookies providing dessert.
