Ag extension, soil/water, township on Nov. 5 ballot

After a series of plea deals in child sexual assault cases, a victim’s father is questioning the light sentencing in Union County.

Those eligible to run for seats on Union County’s agriculture extension council, soil and water conservation or live in Pleasant Township have until Aug. 28 to file nomination papers. The election is Nov. 5.

Agriculture Extension has nine board members with four terms expiring this year; Randy Wuebker, Callie Anderson, Jean Weisshaar and Ronda Driskill. Another person is needed to fill a vacancy created by Allyson Lacina. Twenty-five signatures are needed to be a candidate for extension. Signatures are due to the Union County Auditor’s office.

Soil and water conservation has three terms expiring; Michael Eblen, Luke Baker and Daniel Waigand. Twenty-five signatures are needed to be a candidate for soil and water board. Signatures are due to the Union County Auditor’s office.

Pleasant Township has two terms expiring, Jeff Rice and Vernon Kelly. Signatures are not needed for candidates. The auditor’s office needs informed of interested candidates by Aug. 28.

Greater Regional Health board of directors has one seat on the Nov. 5 ballot. Julie Lanning’s term expires this year. The board is changing from a seven-member board to a five-member board. Member Sherry McKie, whose term also expires this year, is not running for re-election. The board approved to rewrite its bylaws to reflect five members and eliminate a seat that has been vacant since December 2022. Fifty signatures are needed for candidates and also need to be to the auditor’s office by Aug. 28.
