Expect water outages during North Maple Street work

Properties in certain blocks of Uptown Creston will have sections of time without water as Creston Waterworks will replace water main infrastructure beginning July 22.

An informative meeting about the work is for those residents. The meeting will be held 6 p.m. today at Creston City Council chambers in the Restored Depot.

Work is planned for the 100, 200 and 300 blocks of North Maple Street. Creston Waterworks General Manager Steve Guthrie told his board Tuesday there will be four-hour sections of time properties will not have water. Plans are to notify the properties in advance when those four-hour sections will happen. Water outages are expected multiple times during the work.

Those residents are encouraged to attend this evening’s meeting.

“We anticipate the work to take 80 working days,” Creston Waterworks had in a statement earlier this month. “We will do our best to give customers a notice 24 hours ahead of time, however this may not be possible due to complications with construction,” stated about the water outages.

Creston Waterworks will be replacing all or part of each service line at no cost to the customer. If the service line is lead or galvanized steel, we will replace the service line to the water meter and access to your business/residence will be needed. If the service line is copper, the line will be replaced up to and including the outside shutoff,” according to the statement. Portions of certain streets intersecting those blocks of North Maple are included.

Properties that are part of the work are as follows:

West Adams: 201, 203.

North Maple: 104, 114, 124, 107, 109, 113, 115, 117, 121, 206, 208, 209, 210, 211, 212, 213, 215, 215.5, 217, 219, 224, 300, 302,303, 305, 306, 307, 307.5, 309, 311.

West Montgomery: 108.

West Mills: 111, 201.

Any re-surfacing (sidewalks, curbs, etc.) will be replaced in as good or better condition than prior to construction.

This work will also limit parking and restrict traffic, so expect delays. Pedestrian traffic will still be away to access businesses in the area. Creston Waterworks will provide more information on street closures as the schedule becomes available.

Those with any questions, please call the Waterworks Office at 641-782-5817 ask for Steve Guthrie or Justin Davis.
