Creston’s McKinley Pool will be opening late due to delayed construction and safety inspections. Parks and Recreation Director Rusty Zimmerman explained the slide must be put in before any inspections can take place.
“We cannot open the pool without the slide being in, just for safety reasons,” Zimmerman said. “It’s just laying there on the ground, wood blocks underneath, and I can’t take that risk.”
Once the slide is installed, the state will come to inspect the structure, as well as go through the new heater system. The inspector can’t be contacted until the pool is completely ready to go. Additionally, the pool has to be filled.
“I’ve contacted Pleva, we’re going to have to set up a date to get the pools washed and filled, so they can come through and get everything turned on and get their system going correctly,” Zimmerman said.
With all this to do, the projected opening of the pool is June 10 or 11. As of 2023, daily admission is $4, with a single pass at $100 and a pass for a family of four at $150.
