‘Freedom, without compromise’

Chris Doster opens Feel Better Training

Members of the Creston Chamber of Commerce join Chris Doster for the ribbon cutting of his new personal training business Feel Better Training, found at 124 N. Maple St.

CrossFit Chris no more - Chris Doster has moved from his CrossFit gym to a new aspect of working out with his new business Feel Better Training. Located at 124 N. Maple, Doster is now focusing on personal training.

Doster is working with the company Active Life, whose goal is to give their clients “freedom, without compromise.” Alongside Doster is trainer Bre Elliott, and together their goal is to bring people into an active, healthy life.

There are four stages to Feel Better Training’s process: assess, develop, ascend and freedom.

“The assess phase begins when you say that you have something you need help with,” Doster said. “That’s when we’re going to go into your history, your needs, your goals. We’re going to do a joint-by-joint movement screen to assess your range of motion and skill level.” This first phase takes between one and three weeks.

Next up is the development stage, which focuses on one-on-one training a number of times each week. During this time, the client should be learn to do these exercises and keep these habits, so as to keep them later on. This phase could take anywhere from six to 20 weeks.

“Ascend is where a client will end up moving into a little bit more autonomy,” Doster said. “We may still plan out their workouts, but they can come in here and do them on their own with other clients if they want, or do them at home.” This may last anywhere from 26 to 52 weeks.

Doster explained that, while receiving support from a personal trainer is good, it isn’t supposed to last a person’s entire life. “We want to teach you and guide you and empower you to be the type of person that doesn’t need a personal trainer anymore.” This is the final stage, called freedom.

Doster said this personal training plan is a scientific process developed by Active Life.

“We’re not guessing. We’re using data that we learned from you, subjective and qualitative, to develop a plan and a functional diagnosis,” Doster said.

He also said the business hopes to develop a relationship with healthcare professionals in the area, something he struggles with when he owned a CrossFit gym. Doster said he hopes to help patients when they are no longer able to use the medical system for their care due to insurance.

Doster specializes in clients between the ages of 45 and 70, but is happy to work with anyone who is interested. Those interested can book a free consultation at www.feelbettertraining.com.
