Diagonal Lions Celebration Labor Day weekend

The annual Diagonal Lions Celebration will be held Saturday, Sept. 2 through Monday, Sept 4 in Diagonal.

Saturday’s festivities start at 1 p.m with the JR Class UTV Poker Run, sign up opens at noon. After the run is the Diagonal Smoke public serving from 6-8 p.m. on the patio of 209. For those entering event, a pit meeting will be held at 7:30 a.m. and judging will be done at 3:30 p.m.

On Sunday, start the day off 9-10 a.m. with an outdoor church service. If it happens to rain, the service will be moved to the church. Registration for the 13th Annual Car, Truck and Motorcycle Show, held at the Diagonal Community Building on Broadway Street, is open from 9-11 a.m. with judging from noon to 1 p.m and award presentations at 2 p.m. Any questions on the event may be directed to Rob Graham at 641-340-1994. Check out the Pedal Pull at the park or the 3-on-3 basketball tournament, both at 11 a.m. Sign-up for the basketball tournament is at 10 a.m. under the water tower.

The popular Tractor Distance Pull, featuring trucks and tractors, starts at 2 p.m. Kids ages 6-16 can enter the fishing derby at 2:30 p.m at Fogle Lake. Poles will be available and prizes will be awarded. At 4:30 p.m. across the road, west of the park, a bean bag toss tournament will take place. End the evening Sunday with the Fireworks Spectacular at 9 p.m. or after the pull. Fireworks can be viewed from Fogle Lake.

Monday morning begins with the Mammoth Parade, “Diagonal - Makin’ It Happen” at 10 a.m. Back by popular demand at 11:30 a.m. are the adult bike races at the dirt track. At the top of Main Street at 1 p.m. you can watch the Garden Tractor Pull. The Pickup and Farm Tractor Pull, featuring 2WD and 4WD stock and modified diesel and farm tractor classes also begins at 1 p.m. Under the water tower will be a hot-spot at 4 p.m. with a nickle scramble. Make sure to get your free watermelon, available in the afternoon.

Purchase a Duck Regatta ticket for a $5 donation and you could win up to $1,000 at the 5 p.m. event. Tickets for the regatta are limited and may be purchased from any Diagonal Lions member or during normal business hours at Diagonal Building Products until 4 p.m. Monday. The first place winner of the regatta gets $1,000; second, $500, third $250, fourth, $100 and fifth-10th all win $50. Tickets to win a 2023 Polaris Ranger 1000 will also be available for a $50 donation. Winners need not be present to win for either event. The winner of the Polaris will be responsible for taxes.

On both Sunday and Monday 5:30-7:30 p.m. bingo will be available to play. In addition to regular games, two games daily with $50 in prize money will be held. The Printing Museum and Genealogy Center will be open 2-4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday and from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. on Monday.
