A high-speed accident Saturday evening in Creston resulted in the death of one Creston man and life threatening injuries to another.
According to updated reports by the Iowa State Patrol, at approximately 9:43 p.m. a 2001 Ford Mustang driven by Myung Jo Kang, 26, of Creston, was traveling southbound on Sumner Avenue at a high rate of speed.
Kang lost control near Howard Street, where the Mustang left the roadway, first striking a parked car then vaulting and striking the fronts of two homes on the east side of the 300 block of North Summer Avenue before coming to rest on its top at 313 North Sumner Ave.
The passenger, Young Seok Moon, 27, of Creston, was also wearing a seatbelt and was transported to Greater Regional Health where we was declared deceased.
Kang, who was wearing a seat belt, sustained life-threatening injuries, was transported by ambulance to Greater Regional Health and then flown by helicopter to Mercy Hospital in Des Moines.
There is no update on the condition of Kang.
The accident was the first fatal crash within city limits since 2018 when a 17-year-old girl from West Des Moines was killed from a collision on Highway 34.
The investigation is ongoing. State patrol was assisted by the Creston Police and Fire departments, the Union County Sheriff’s Office and Union County EMS.
