For nearly the next week there will be plenty of fun, food and tradition at the Union County Fairgrounds in Afton.
Fair events begin Thursday with check-in of various animals and projects starting at 8 a.m. and lasting most of the day. Thursday concludes with the queen coronation at 6 p.m. in the ISSB Show Arena. That is followed by live music from Morgan Thompson in the Grand Pavilion.
Friday
The 4-H and FFA broiler and poultry show starts at 8 a.m. at the animal barn. Open class exhibits begin check in at 8 a.m. in the commercial building. The dog show starts at 12:30 p.m. in the ISSB Show Arena. A car and tractor show is at 1 p.m. east of the grandstands. Fridays After Five with Garret and The Relics will be at 5 p.m. in the Grand Pavilion. At 7 p.m. are the 4-H/FFA speed events horse show in the horse arena and a concert in the grandstands by Casey Muesiggmann.
Saturday
The 4-H and FFA swine show starts at 8 a.m. in the ISSB show arena. With the day sponsored by Greater Regional Health Kid’s Day, various events for kids will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. SJ McDonald will provide some live music starting at 4 p.m. in the Grand Pavilion. The queen’s parade is at 5:30 p.m. followed by the truck and tractor pull at 7 p.m. in the grandstands.
Sunday
Cowboy church will be held at 8:15 a.m. in the show arena. The 4-H and FFA beef show starts at 9 a.m. in the show arena. The 4-H and FFA rabbit show starts at noon in the small animal barn. A 4-H robotics and Lego demonstartion will be at 1:30 p.m. in the 4-H building. At 2 p.m. are the registrations for the bags tournament and hay bale throwing contest sponsored by the Union County Farm Bureau board. the 4-H and FFA pet and cat show is at 3 p.m. in the small animal barn. Clover kid pet show is at 4 p.m. in the small animal barn. Dustin Baird will have some live music at 4:30 p.m. in the Grand Pavilion. The demolition derby at 6:30 p.m. ends Sunday’s events.
Monday
The 4-H and FFA sheep and goat show is at 9 a.m. in the show arena. The open bucket calf show is at 4 p.m. Kevin Lindgren plays the stage at 5 p.m. The celebrity beef show is at 5:30 p.m. 4-H members are asked to wear their yellow Yardbird shirts in honor of Darwin West. Muttin bustin’ starts at 6 p.m. followed by the RCA rodeo at 7 p.m.
Tuesday
At 9 a.m. is the 4-H and FFA horse show. Jake Schrodt provides live music at 5 p.m. in the Grand Pavilion. More muttin bustin’ is at 6 p.m. followed by a second night of rodeo at 7 p.m.
Wednesday is the last day of fair which has the parade of champions and livestock sale starting at 1 p.m.
