CORNING - According to information from Southwest Valley school, a student has been charged with threatening violence and has been removed from the school.
Superintendent Chris Fenster shared a message with staff and on Facebook relaying the following information. Friday, Fenster was informed a Southwest Valley student had made a threat of violence at the high school. The threat was made Thursday and was not reported to authorities or Fenster until after school Friday. Upon an investigation between the Adam’s County Sheriff’s office and Fenster, the threat was deemed credible, and the student has been found, charged and removed from Southwest Valley.
“The failure to report this to either the sheriff’s office or myself is inexcusable and not tolerable; therefore, I have taken appropriate personnel action while this matter is being investigated,” Fenster included in a statement released Monday.
Fenster apologized for the lapse in not immediately reporting this threat. He said he is “thankful that nothing happened and will continue working to ensure the school facilities are safe.” He said he appreciates support in parents talking with their children about not making comments of any threatening nature and, if they hear them, to tell an adult immediately.
