Union County Development Association’s Chloe Keefe, who will assist the organization with marketing and a social media presence, watched some of her work happen during her youth in Corning.
Her mother purchased a hair salon in Corning and eventually added a coffee shop to the property.
Keefe said the hair salon included some property that was full of potential. She said her mom filled that potential with coffee as it enters its fifth year of operation.
“I watched how a business work on the inside,” she said.
Those exposures will help Keefe, 23, who started work earlier this month, continue Union County Development Association’s interest in new industry recruitment, business and industry retention, retail recruitment and retention, housing initiatives and tourism.
The Southwest Valley High School graduate first attended Iowa State University with an interest in fashion design. But a call to home made her transfer to Southwestern Community College with an interest in marketing.
“I still feel involved in the community,” she said about returning to her interests in Corning and Adams County. After acquiring an associate degree in business administration she transferred to Northwest Missouri State University graduating in December 2020.
Keefe said she is familiar with Creston and Union County largely in part of her interaction growing up in Corning. She attended dance classes in Creston. An event at UCDA’s Roundhouse is what informed her about the position.
