Arispe native artist holding gallery tonight

Artist Kim Dawson, originally from Arispe, will have her work on display tonight from 6 p.m.—8 p.m at the Creston Restored Depot. Dawson is the daughter Frank and Marilyn Eighme, who still reside in Arispe and run the service station.

“I literally grew up at the gas station and am blessed to have been raised in such a loving and close-knit community,” Dawson said. “Its like being part of an enormous family.”

Dawson is also a University of Northern Iowa graduate who lives in Van Meter.

Dawson is a self-taught, abstract fluid artist who said she is excited to be exhibiting her work near her hometown community of Arispe. As well as being an artist, she is a Reiki master, poet, intuitive empath, spiritual being and proud mom. Reiki is an alternative form of Japanese energy work.

Each piece of her artwork is intuitively created and has an energy of its own. Combining artistry with her Reiki practice, Dawson uses mediation and loving energies to set intention for the flow of good health, happiness, inner peace and abundance to those who view her work. Dawson began painting as a form of self-expression after a series of medial trauma.

“Visual movement, color and energetic flow is what I most love about being a fluid artist,” Dawson said. “Painting added balance and healing to my life: physically, emotionally, intellectually and spiritually. I only hope the images I create bring as much peace and happiness to others as they do to me while creating them.”

Dawson has exhibited her work at various venues and events in the Des Moines metro.

Dawson will be on location for two events: Friday Sept 3rd, 2021 from 6 p.m.—8 p.m. at the Creston Restored Depot gallery and at the Creston Arts Festival on September 18, 2021 from 8 a.m.—4 p.m. Most of her paintings are available to purchase, and commissions are being accepted.
