Improvements to the Creston Municipal Airport’s runway will begin in 2022 now that city council approved plans and awarded a contract Tuesday.
Matt Garber, engineer and land surveyor of Clapsaddle-Garber Associates, said the airport’s runway, which is 4,901-feet by 75-feet, will have 6 inches of concrete on top subgrade totaling an additional 18 inches.
Bids
The project, estimated at $4.5 million, received five bids. The contract was awarded to Cedar Valley Corp., LLC, of Waterloo, which came in lowest at $4,014,594. The highest bid was $4.8 million.
Rep. Cindy Axne (IA-03) announced May 14 $4,399,480 from the U.S. Department of Transportation has been granted for the Creston Municipal Airport runway renovation. There will not be any direct cost to the city or taxpayers.
“The continued federal support of our local airports receive allows them to develop and repair vital infrastructure that keeps Iowans safe,” Axne said. “I’m pleased the Creston Municipal Airport is receiving this funding – this money is a direct investment in our growth here in Iowa’s Third District.”
The runway is anticipated to close Aug. 15, 2022, with pavement open to flights Nov. 25, 2022. Lighting and navigation aids are expected to be complete May 21, 2023.
