Parker convicted of First Degree murder

Gerald Parker of Creston was convicted of murder in the first degree and robbery in the first degree by a jury Feb. 9 in Madison County.

WINTERSET – On Feb. 9, Gerald Steven Parker, 42, of Creston, was convicted by a jury in Madison County, Iowa, of murder in the first degree and robbery in the first degree.

The trial information filed by the State of Iowa alleged that on July 21, 2020, Parker did unlawfully and having malice, aforethought, willfully, deliberately and with premeditation, kill Jonathan Michael Hoffman on Macksburg Road in Madison County.

“I want to thank the Madison County Sheriff’s department and all of the agents and criminalists with the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation for all of their hard work in solving this murder and helping bring justice for Johnny Hoffman and his family,” said Matt Schultz, Madison County attorney.

The jury trial was held at the Jackson Building at the Madison County fairgrounds as an alternate site to allow for social distancing and Covid-19 security. The trial began on Feb. 2, 2021, and ended Tuesday.
