Russell’s 98 leads the way for Wolverines in Southwest Iowa Cup

The Nodaway Valley golf teams took part in the Southwest Iowa Cup last week in Afton and Creston. The schools at the meet were Mount Ayr, Winterset, Creston, East Union, Clarke and Lenox, joining the Wolverines.

On the girls side, the meet champions were the Mount Ayr Raiderettes, who were led by meet medalist Jaylee Shaffer with a 79.

Nodaway Valley placed fourth as a team with a score of 498 points. Junior Mallory Russell had the second-lowest score on the 18-hole meet with a score of 98. Other Wolverine scores were Brailyann Coffman 131, Taryn Gutierrez 134 and Aleyah Pilgreen 135.

Russell sits as one of the top golfers in the Pride of Iowa Conference. She has the fifth best 9-hole score this season among 47 POI girls golfers and the third best scoring average for nine holes with a 48-stroke average.

Boys

The boys team placed seventh with a team score of 421. The Wolverines were led by Sam Miller’s 97 and Jack Berg’s 100. Other NV scores came from Ty Strode with 111, Collin Akers 113 and Jett Christensen 121
