Silver-finishing distance medley leads NV indoors at Northwest

The Nodaway Valley girls entered six events and the boys 12 events into the Northwest Missouri State High School Indoor Kickoff track and field meet Saturday, March 22 in Maryville, Missouri. This was the second indoor meet each of the Wolverine teams has entered as the outdoor season looms ahead beginning next week.

The Wolverine girls’ 4x400-meter relay finished the highest, taking a 15th place finish in 5:08.24. That was the only relay the girls entered on the day.

In individiual events, freshmen Kaylee Moser and Ava Herrick finished 22nd and 26th, respectively in the 60-meter dash, each finishing in 9.90 seconds.

In the 200, Allie Cornelison and Haisley Zoubek were 22nd and 26th, finishing in 29.84 and 30.44, respectively.

Moser was 29th in the 400-meter dash, clocking in at 1:23.03 and Herrick ran a 3:14.43 in the 800 to finish 22nd.

Cornelison and Zoubek each entered the 60-meter hurdles with Cornelison finishing in 21st (11.37) and Zoubek in 28th (13.23).

The strongest finishes for the boys came in the distance races and the throws.

The distance medley was runner-up with a time of 11:46.25. The team ran a college distance of 4,000 meters (1200-400-800-1600). Team members were Luke Kading, Erik Jensen, Paul Kading and Gabe Winkelmann.

Senior thrower Trent Warner took third in the shot put with a throw of 51 feet, 7 1/4 inches. Ashton Honnold was also in the event, throwing a 19th-place measurement of 39 feet, 8 3/4 inches.

In the 1,600 meters, Gabe Winkelmann finished in 4:54.75 to place sixth and Luke Kading ran a 5:00.79 to place seventh. Cheribum Mercado also ran that and placed 19th (6:04.26) but placed fifth in the 3,200 meters, where he finished in 12:27.91.

Cassius Burnside was 21st (7.62), Caleb Christensen 32nd (7.85) and Micah Cronk 44th (8.71) in the 60-meter dash.

In the 200, Burnside was 23rd (25.25), Cronk was 40th (28.48) and Trevyn Colton 41st (28.89).

Hayden Colton took 23rd in the 400 (58.66) while Titan Foster (58.88) was 25th and Trevyn Colton was 33rd (1:07.05).

Paul Kading finished 17th (2:23.99) in the 800 while Erik Jensen was 26th (2:52.13).

In the 60-meter hurdles, Keyin Steeve ran 10.29 to place 15th and Foster 10.44 to finish 17th.

Two other relay teams ran well for the Wolverines with the 4x400 team (Foster, Steeve, Honnold and Christensen) taking 16th (3:56.54) and the sprint medley finishing 13th (4:14.09).

Burnside was 16th in the long jump with a jump of 17 feet, 3 3/4 inches.
