3-State Beef Conference in Greenfield Jan. 15

The 3-State Beef Conference provides beef cattle producers and others in the beef industry with a regular update on current cow-calf and stocker topics.

Iowa State University extension beef specialists Erika Lundy-Woolfolk and Chris Clark are Iowa organizers of the annual event, and say the content is based on prior attendee feedback and current industry economic conditions. The 2025 event is set for Jan. 14-16 at locations in Missouri, Iowa and Nebraska.

The Iowa location is the second in the series and will be held Wednesday, Jan. 15, at the Warren Cultural Center in Greenfield.

The first session of the 2025 conference will be held in Maryville, Missouri, at the Agricultural Learning Center, 22893 U.S. Highway 71, on Tuesday, Jan. 14, and the third session is on Thursday, Jan. 16, at the Nebraska Cattlemen office, 4611 Cattle Drive, Lincoln, Nebraska.

All locations follow the same schedule, with registration at 5:30 p.m. and the program beginning at 6 p.m. Lundy-Woolfolk said attendees at the Iowa location are invited to an optional Beef Quality Assurance training ahead of the program, from 4 to 5:30 p.m.

The genetics of calving, Randie Culbertson, assistant professor and extension cow-calf specialist, Iowa State UniversityYearling bull development and management,

Kacie McCarthy, beef cow-calf specialist, University of Nebraska – LincolnAn update on recent bovine pinkeye research and implications for management in beef cattle,

Dr. Matt Hille, DVM, diagnostic pathologist and extension specialist, University of Nebraska – LincolnPre-registration will help with meal plans and in keeping costs down.

The registration fee is $30 per person and includes a meal and copy of the conference proceedings. Also, please indicate if you will attend the BQA certification.

Evening Storytime Jan. 16 at Greenfield Library

The Greenfield Public Library’s next evening storytime is 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 16.

This storytime is for the whole family, but it is planned with young children of preschool or kindergarten age in mind.

Join in for stories, songs, movement and a craft.

MWP annual dinner Jan. 30 in Casey

Ryan Moon of Greater Des Moines Partnership will keynote Midwest Partnership Economic Development’s 2025 Annual Dinner Thursday, January 30 at the Casey Community Building. In addition, Kwik Star a new business in the region and Cardinal Glass, who is celebrating their 50th anniversary, will also give presentations. The theme for this year’s dinner is “Sharing the Vision”.Social hour begins at 6 p.m., dinner by Café on the Hill will be served at 6:30 p.m. and the program begins at 7 p.m. A business update will be presented as well as the Entrepreneurial Economic Impact Award. The evening will conclude with guest speaker, Ryan Moon, speaking on the vision for our region. Ryan serves as the Director of Government Relations and Public Policy for the Greater Des Moines Partnership. In this role, he leads engagement with local, state and federal officials and leads the Government Policy Council to develop and advocate for public policy that generates economic growth, business prosperity and talent development in Greater Des Moines. A Casey native, Moon resides in West Des Moines with his wife Haley and their kids, Holden and Reggie.

YQCA classes for animal exhibitors planned

Youth for the Quality Care of Animals (YQCA) sessions are planned for the coming months in Greenfield. Classes are 6-7 p.m. Jan. 29, Feb. 24, March 27 and April 29.

All exhibitors that plan to bring and show beef, dairy, swine, sheep, goats, rabbits and poultry at the 2025 Adair County Fair must complete this course in person or online before June 17 in order to be eligible to show at the county or state fair.

Greenfield Lions Girls Basketball Tourney

Fifth and sixth grade and seventh and eighth grade teams are invited to a girls basketball tournament hosted by the Greenfield Lions Club Sunday, Feb. 2 at Nodaway Valley High School, Nodaway Valley Elementary School and the Adair County Health and Fifntess Center.

Teams may register by emailing greenfieldlionsclub@gmail.com. Entry fee may be mailed to Greenfield Lions Club, PO Box 315, Greenfield, Iowa, 50849.Medals will be given for first and second. Brackets will include up to eight teams of 10 players each. Games will consist of four eight-minute running-clock quarters. A concession stand will be available. Games will begin at 8 a.m.
