The Adair County Board of Supervisors authorized during last week’s meeting to use $7,000 in American Rescue Plan Act money for work relating to a change in internet providers.
According to Auditor Mandy Berg, the county has previously used Mediacom internet, but they will be switching to Windstream.
“We had signed a contract with Windstream to bring their internet in. In looking at their map, they said there was already [internet ran here] so it was a matter of hooking it up,” Berg said. “Now they’ve come back and said there’s a build out that needs to happen and they’ll have to go underground.”
Berg said it is thought that the new fiber internet will be more reliable.
“We need a good, reliable internet, so they agreed to pay that cost using some ARPA funds we still have left,” Berg said.
In other action, the board:
• awarded Grantham Sanitation with the upcoming year’s garbage contract, as the only one to submit a bid
• appointed Terri Queck-Matzie to the Fontanelle seat for the Adair County Tourism Council and Ken Sidey to the Greenfield seat
• awarded a resolution for a bridge project on the west side of section 22 in Lee Township and heard a report from County Engineer Nick Kauffman on recent maintenance and activities
