Adair County voters chose Republican incumbent Ray “Bubba” Sorensen of Greenfield over Democratic challenger Karen Varley of Stuart 3,027 to 981 (75.49%) in a contested race of local interest for Iowa House District 23 in the general election Tuesday, Nov. 5.

In another contested race, Adair County chose Republican incumbent Amy Sinclair 2,777 to 1,062 over Democratic challenger Nicole Loew.

Not all results from those entire districts were in, but Adair County reported all votes by 9:30 p.m. election night.

There were 4,103 ballots cast of 5,431 registered voters in Adair County, for a 75.55% voter turnout.

For U.S. President, Adair County chose Republican Donald J. Trump 2,916 to 1,085 over Democrat Kamala D. Harris. Robert F. Kennedy received 34 votes and Chase Oliver was next closest with 20.

In a race for U.S. Representative District 3, Republican incumbent Zach Nunn won the Adair County vote 2,771 to 1,173 over Democrat Lanon Baccam.

Matt Wedemeyer (1NW), Jerry Walker (3SW) and Michael Christoffersen (5GF) all take supervisor seats unopposed. All three received at least 98% of the votes.

Other county offices on the ballot were Mandy Berg for Auditor, Jeff Vandewater for Sheriff and Kelly Mitchell for Recorder. They were all unopposed.

An amendment to the state constitution on the ballot that would lower the official state voting age to 18 and require voters to meet state and county residency requirements passed with 80% of Adair County voters voting in favor of it. Those who will be 18 by the General Election will be able to vote in the primary election.

Another state constitutional amendment providing that the lieutenant governor will act as the governor if there is a temporary disability of the governor received 85.62% yes votes.

A public measure for the CAM Community Schools received 58.33% yes votes for Adair County’s portion.

Election results are unofficial until they are canvassed.
