NV school musical this weekend

A group of Nodaway Valley students are excited to bring the rhymes and good times of children’s author Dr. Seuss to the high school stage soon in the musical “Seussical Jr.”

The musical will be 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 8 and Saturday, Nov. 9 in the high school auditorium.

“Seussical Jr.” takes the performer and audience into the world of Dr. Seuss, where beloved characters are revisited, like The Cat in the Hat, Horton the Elephant, Gertrude McFuzz, Lazy Mayzie and JoJo.

Advance tickets became availabe on Bound Sunday, Nov. 3. Tickets cost $10 for adults and K-12 students are $8. Seating is reserved.

Fontanelle Fall Supper Nov. 9

Fontanelle Fire and Rescue welcome the community for their Fall Supper 5-7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9 at the fire station. Dine in or carry out will be available for $15. Call or text 641-745-0897.

The dinner menu follows the former Fontanelle United Methodist Church menu: minute steak, mashed potatoes and gravy, creamed peas or green beans, dinner roll, salads and dessert.

Proceeds will help the ambulance service purchase a new defibrillator.

4-H Awards Day set for Nov. 17

The Adair County 4-H program plans to have its annual awards day Sunday, Nov. 17 at the 4-H/FFA Center on the Adair County Fairgrounds.

There will be an ice cream social served at 1:30 p.m. with awards presented starting at 2 p.m.

Laughs coming to Warren Cultural Center

Dante Powell will be the headliner comedian during a night of laughter at the Warren Cultural Center 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 22. This is the third show of WCC’s “All-Iowa” 2024-25 series.

Dante Powell is based in Des Moines but grew up in Bernice, Louisiana. His work has been featured on SiriusXM radio, NPR, and kweliTV. His comedy album “The Squirrels Get Fat” debuted atop the iTunes/Amazon comedy charts. He has been a regular at many comedy venues such as clubs, bars and theaters.

Comedian Ian Pope will open for Dante Powell.

Tickets are $20 for adults and students (high school and younger) are free. Tickets are available at warrenculturalcenter.com or at the door.

Wrestling Hall of Fame Banquet Nov. 23

The Nodaway Valley Wrestling Hall of Fame Banquet is 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 23 at Sixteen Oaks in Fontanelle.

Inductees include the Swoyer Family, 1964 undefeated team, Lonnie Timmerman and Darry Chiles and Rex Hight.

Tickets must be purchased by Nov. 13 and may be purchased online, at a local bank or through committee members Tim Baier, Mike Beaman, Steve McClelland or Logan Queck.

Harvest Meal at Fontanelle church

The men’s and outreach groups at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Fontanelle are serving a harvest meal 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 24 in the Parish Hall.

Turkey, ham, dressing, potatoes and gravy, green beans, a roll and pie will be on the menu for a free will offering.

All are welcome; take out meals will be available. All proceeds will go toward church improvements.

Thanksgiving Meal in Stuart

The Odd Fellows and Rebekahs in Stuart will have a Thanksgiving meal for anyone who needs somewhere to celebrate the holiday 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 28.

The meal is free and will include turkey, ham, all the fixings and pie. Deliveries are available as well.

Hospital grand reopening Nov. 11; celebration Dec. 4

Adair County Health System (ACHS) has an important update regarding the re-opening of their facility. After careful consideration, officials have rescheduled the full resumption of services to Monday, Nov. 11.

Although all hospital operations are resuming Nov. 11, construction will continue for several months. ACHS will build a new ambulance garage and EMS house, which were completely destroyed in the storm. Physical therapy services will remain available at the Adair County Fitness Center during the ongoing repairs and renovations to this area of the health system.

A grand reopening celebration will be held 4:30-6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4.
