CROSS COUNTRY: Nodaway Valley boys fourth in home meet

The Nodaway Valley girls and boys cross country teams hosted their annual invitational at Greenfield Golf and Country Club Monday, Oct. 7.

There were 11 scoring schools and 17 in all, in what was one of the final regular season outings of the season before conference and state qualifying meets come calling.

The Wolverine boys were fourth at the meet as the first of seven finishing Pride of Iowa Conference teams represented at the meeting. They scored 97 points and had two top-10 individual finishes.

Tri-Center claimed the top prize on the boys side with 36 points and Trojan runner Haven Weers won the race in 17:39. Martensdale-St. Marys’ Teegan Dorenkamp was the runner-up in 17:53.

Freshman Gabe Winkelmann led Nodaway Valley with a seventh place finish in 18:12, while Luke Kading was the other top-10 finish for the Wolverines in ninth, completing the course in 18:26.

NV also had top-25 finishers in Haden Colton (19:33, 24th) and Cherubim Mercado (19:39, 25th). Other finishers for the home team were Paul Kading (20:48, 40th) and Dominic Breheny (23:00, 71st).

Jazz Christensen led two Wolverine girls who participated in the meet, finishing 30th in 24:17 out of 76 runners entered. Kaylee Van Horn was next, taking 34th in 24:33.

Van Meter claimed the team title with 25 team points, followed by IKM-Manning in second with 84 and Pleasantville in third with 93.

Middle School Runners Compete At Meet

Nodaway Valley and Orient-Macksburg had middle school teams competing at the Nodaway Valley meet. Neither team placed in the team race.

Leading the Wolverines on the boys side was Everett Ehler in sixth (12:35). Other NV finishers were Lincoln Van Horn (15:25, 33rd), Kerry Comer (15:26, 34th) and Lyrick Schwartz (16:34, 50th).

Caleb Heinz paced Orient-Macksburg’s crew in 37th (15:33). Other Bulldog runners who finished were Lane Jones (19:25, 59th) and Tucker Carson (20:47, 62nd).

Bailey Breheny led the Wolverine middle school runners on the girls side, taking 37th in 18:43.
